Hey, you guys! So I’ve missed the VMA awards last night and apparently it was a mess . . .? Every review that I’ve read makes me happy that I stayed dedicated to my Jesus and went to bible study. I won’t indulge in the negativity as it simply isn’t part of my genetic make-up to be messy so I’ll gloss over what I can with the right spirit:
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF THE NOMINEES AND A SPECIAL CONGRATS TO ALL OF THE WINNERS
CAMILA CABELLO – HAVANA
Beating out my 2 personal faves, “Finesse” by Bruno Mars/Cardi B and “God’s Plan” by Drake, this Cuban beauty took home awards for “Best Video” and “Artist of The Year”!
Hailing from the Bronx, NY this new wife and mommy took home “Best New Artist” from her #1 hits “Bodak Yellow” and “I like It”! Her acceptance speech went a little like . . . “I had the baby, I carried the baby, and I’m still winning awards! /all the love that my fans, that my friends, that everybody shows me is genuine, is beautiful, and that’s something that God gives me, that you can’t buy”
THE CARTERS – APESH**
This husband and wife power duo took home awards for “Best Art Direction” and “Best Cinematography” for their smash hit “Apesh**”.
JENNIFER LOPEZ – DINERO
Ms. Lopez partnered with fellow Latin queen, Cardi B and DJ Khalid to create a smash hit, sending all three artists home with the “Best Collaboration” award.
ARIANA GRANDE – NO TEARS LEFT TO CRY
Award: “Best Pop”
POST MALONE – ROCKSTAR
Award: “Song of The Year”
AVICII – LONELY TOGETHER
Award: “Best Dance”
IMAGINE DRAGONS – WHATEVER IT TAKES
Award: “Best Rock”
CHILDISH GAMBINO – THIS IS AMERICA
Award(s): “Video With A Message”
J BALVIN – MI GENTE
Award: “Best Latin”
NICKI MINAJ – CHUN–LI
Never the one to be silenced, Ms. Miraj took home the award for “Best Hip-Hop” beating out J.Cole, The Carters, Cardi B and the Migos. Nicki ruffled a few feathers during her acceptance speech while promoting her Queen Radio show airing today (08/21/2018) for a particular “—- —— of the day”. We will keep Ms. Minaj lifted up in our prayers.
From the shameful and unnecessary bickering from late-twenty to thirty somethings and the self-absorption of celebrities with egos much bigger than they should be, lets all agree that this behavior is embarrassing. There are millions of fans watching and mimicking these actions in real life and it counters the call to action to end bullying –cyber or otherwise. While everyone cannot be “number one” lets focus on making each other feel important instead of allowing your insecurities to seep through your pores. Every single person nominated is gifted, if that wasn’t the case then they would not be professionals in their field, nor would they be recognized for their work (not to disregard any artists that are constantly putting in exceptional efforts only to be ignored for the more popular, mainstream artists). What was exhibited last night on stage from Nicki to Cardi to Tiffany [Haddish] and even Travis Scott, this shows sloppiness, lack of self-control and division, I cannot celebrate tackiness nor can I bear to witness it in silence.
MTV should show a little more concern for their brand/network and what they allow to be transmitted to the minds of the young (and even old) people. We have to stop promoting pettiness as it leads to destruction and with no youth, we have no future. This phrase has been said before, and I’ll echo it once more: “We Have To Do Better”.
I’m signing off, you guys! Enjoy your Tuesday and don’t forget to comment, share and most importantly SUBSCRIBE!
